Nesma Aboulkhair

Dr Aboulkhair is the Director of the Additive Manufacturing team at the Technology Innovation Institute’s Advanced Materials Research Centre TII-AMRC (UAE) since April 2021. Prior to that, she was an assistant professor at the University of Nottingham (UK), where she stills holds a visiting academic role. Since 2013, She has been working on Materials & Manufacturing Research; with active projects spanning across several metal additive manufacturing (AM) processes (powder based and drop-on-demand). Coming from a mechanical engineering background and holding a PhD in Materials Engineering and Materials Design, she specialises on developing new materials, materials processing, manufacturing, and characterisation for metallurgy and mechanical properties.

As graduated Mechincal Engineer, Stefan Garbereder has always been involved in advanced technologies. Over the past years, his roles included: maintenance officer in the army, Head of Explosive Ordnance Clearance unit in the Federal State of Schleswig-Holstein and in the Defense & Security Industry in UAE and as technical advisor for Abu Dhabi Police.

In 2019 Stefan started as Project Manager at Al Seer Marine Abu Dhabi, a stock market listed international operating leading Yacht & Marine Company with more than 1200 highly specialized professionals from 50 countries.

As Head of Innovation & Capability Development Stefan is now leading future oriented projects such as the implementation of the world’s largest robot-based AM Flexbot system, which contains 2 industrial-robots and a track system of more than 36m.

As the Senior Vice President EMEA since January 2020, Markus is responsible for EOS’s business in Europe, Middle East, Africa and also South America. Since joining EOS in 1998, Markus has held various sales-related roles in the export region. Over the years, he established EOS subsidiaries in UK and Nordics, introduced distribution partners in many other countries in his region and significantly grew the business by expanding into new markets and industries. Prior to joining EOS, Markus was the Area Manager for Europe and Asia at Kettner, an equipment manufacturer in the packaging industry. Markus has a Dipl. Ing. degree in Production Engineering.

Prof. Rashid K. Abu Al-Rub

Professor Abu Al-Rub is currently the Director of ADAM (Advanced Digital & Additive Manufacturing) Center and Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Khalifa University. He has been a Professor at Texas A& M University. Professor Abu Al-Rub primary research field of interests are in employing digital design and 3D printing for creating multifunctional architected materials and composites for various engineering applications. He has published one book, 6 patents in additive manufacturing, and over 250 publications. He has served as the principle/co-principal investigator of more than 30 projects; he is responsible for more than $30Million. In 2007, he has been selected among nine leading scientists in the US by National Science Foundation and Department of Energy to design new grades of advanced high strength steels for the automotive industry. He has been among the Scholar Google 100 Most Cited Authors in Civil Engineering.

Jithin Mathew, is the Regional Additive Manufacturing Manager at Vallourec Asia Pacific Singapore. Vallourec is a world leader in premium tubular solutions, with over 100 years of active presence in the Oil &Gas industry. They understand the huge potential of AM and has embraced WAAM to improve the future of metallic component value chain for O&G market. Vallourec have their pioneer WAAM machine fully dedicated to end user part production located within their facility at 6, Marsiling Lane Singapore. Jithin takes care of the regional WAAM production operations, including supply chain.

Jithin possesses over 16years of experience in the Oil & Gas Industry. For a major part of his career he was involved in the design and manufacturing of Well Completion Systems at TechnipFMC and GE Oil & Gas. He holds a Master’s in Mechanical Engineering from National University of Singapore. Since 2018, with a keen interest in new technologies, Jithin has been actively involved in developing opportunities to support the Additive Manufacturing adoption in Singapore. His passion for AM also led him to attain an Advanced degree in Additive manufacturing.

Additive manufacturing has been adopted for the manufacturing of complex shaped metallic parts by various industry sectors. However, the rate of adoption has been quite slow for the Oil & Gas and Marine segments. This talk on “WAAM for On-demand manufacturing of Oil & Gas parts” aims to present a few case studies where WAAM was put into use to produce parts that offered better lead times, superior quality or cost savings.

Andrea Penna has been working in the additive manufacturing industry for more than 15 years. Prior to his role at SLM Solutions, he worked for Renishaw as an Application Engineer. He is an experienced researcher with a background in the aerospace sector and started his career at Avio SpA, one of the first companies in the world qualified for aerospace and medical productions with additive manufacturing technologies. After obtaining the Master’s Degree in Materials Science at the University of Turin, he started a research grant at the Department of Applied Science and Technology of the Polytechnic of Turin, in collaboration with Avio SpA, on the characterization of TiAl alloys produced by Electron Beam Melting (EBM). At the same time, in 2013, he obtained the PhD in Materials Engineering at the Polytechnic of Turin.
